Description

The origin of these timeless elegant sarees took place at one of the oldest cities of the human race; Varanasi, where the weaving units till date weave these silk saris meticulously by hand. The sarees are known to employ real gold and silver threads for weaving the embroidery and take about six months to a year for finishing. Most of the characteristic motifs and designs on a pure Banarasi silk saree are inspired from the Mughal period including detailed floral motifs, foliate motifs and a string of leaves on the border called ‘Jhallar’. A typical Banarasi sari has gold brocade or ‘Zari’ work, small motifs or designs, compact weaving, metallic appeal, heavy ‘Pallu’ and ‘Meenakari’ work.

Silk/Cotton fabric is a blend of both fibers, Silk as well as Cotton, combining positive characteristics of each into a single textile. A lightweight, silky and comfortable weave, silk/cotton fabric has a soft and a sturdy, silken drape. It is usually made as a primarily cotton blend.

Ikat (in Indonesian languages means “bind”) is a dyeing technique originated from Indonesia used to pattern textiles that employs resist dyeing on the yarns prior to dyeing and weaving the fabric.

In ikat the resist is formed by binding individual yarns or bundles of yarns with a tight wrapping applied in the desired pattern. Ikat patterns are designed with vertical axis symmetry or with a mirror image running along the center line. This results in pattern or Ikat design to be exactly same on both sides of the fabric. Ikat patterns can be created in horizontal, vertical and diagonal fashion.
