Description

The origin of these timeless elegant sarees took place at one of the oldest cities of the human race; Varanasi, where the weaving units till date weave these silk saris meticulously by hand. The sarees are known to employ real gold and silver threads for weaving the embroidery and take about six months to a year for finishing. Most of the characteristic motifs and designs on a pure Banarasi silk saree are inspired from the Mughal period including detailed floral motifs, foliate motifs and a string of leaves on the border called ‘Jhallar’. A typical Banarasi sari has gold brocade or ‘Zari’ work, small motifs or designs, compact weaving, metallic appeal, heavy ‘Pallu’ and ‘Meenakari’ work.

Besides its luxurious softness, Silk has many other qualities that makes it the perfect all season fabric. Its unique temperature regulating characteristics gives Silk the unique ability to cool and warm simultaneously. Banarasi silk sarees are embellished with diverse motifs and come in striking shades, making them extremely versatile and exemplary works of curated art. Silk sarees are your perfect attire for religious celebrations, weddings or as an evening wear.

Katan is a plain silk fabric. This has woven pure silk threads which are twisted and then woven into pure silk sarees. The yarn is prepared by twisting various silk filaments which makes it very sturdy and durable, and is mostly used for the warp of the fabrics. While today these sarees are produced using looms, during ancient times, Katan sarees were handwoven using handlooms. The fabric is extremely soft and gives a rich feel, which has made Banarasi silk renowned the world over.

The origin of Katan silk saree goes back to Persia and the women from the royal family during the Mughal empire, who were known to wear luxurious and elaborately designed clothes using Katan Silk. Due to its sturdy nature and the royal look it had, the royal women used to adorn elaborately designed clothes in fabric using Katan Silk.

Pair your Silk Sarees with ethnic ornaments that will add to the elegance without distracting from the beauty of the fabric. Team this mauve design with a pair of heels in silver or copper and matching jewellery for the perfect elegant look.
